Week 6 EOC: How has Art Changed Me

How Has Art Changed Me

I started my art interest after high school. I studied Graphic Arts and learned about the different programs the curriculum had in store for us. After learning what was needed to succeed, I started to look at my life a bit differently. Art causes you to wonder about the big things in life and if they should really be small things. Those things could be what career you want to have in the future or if you want to be a freelance artist. I started to embrace life more unrestricted versus non-artists that worked the 9-to-5 lifestyle. Life became full of bright colors. I used to wear a lot of black clothing, but I now wear brighter colors. I don’ t really follow fashion rules because I can appreciate all fashion as art. I boldly express myself in white jeans after Labor Day and boots in the summer. I used to second-guess every color decision I made with clothes. Like “does this blue match that blue” or “should I wear a hat with this outfit?” I now go into galleries and look at the artwork and actually understand it. I analyze pictures a lot more than I use to. I quiz myself on the composition and where the lights were actually placed. I try to guess where the sun was when the photo was taken. Sometimes I laugh at myself because I use the “square photo” fingers to see if I could get a great picture out of it. It’s interesting to see what else might happen in a couple of years.

Week 6 BOC: Me Working on a Photo

Me Working on a Photo

As you may have noticed, you can't really see my face. That's because it's not what's important. Our assignment for this week was to take a picture of ourselves working on a photo. The photo I chose to work on is one that I took during a cooking competition between students here at school. I thought to myself that I needed to color correct some of those photos. So, I used the curves adjustment layers on it. I made sure the reds, greens, and blues showed themselves correctly through the photo. The camera settings I used for the photo for this blog was an f-stop of 5.6 and a shutter speed of 2.5.

Week 5 BOC: Camera Store Shoot

Camera Store Shoot
So, my partner and I went into a camera store on The Strip and asked if we could take pictures of ourselves in their store. They said no! Now, there was one right up the street that might be able to help us out. We didn't ask if we could, we just took the pics! I've always been told sometimes it's better to apologize, than to ask for permission. Surprisingly, it worked out! We used the Canon 7D to achieve our pics. The inside of the store was bright enough so that we didn't have to make drastic changes to the camera settings. The shutter speed was about 1/125 of a sec and the aperture was maybe f/2.5. This shoot was fun because it wasn't really staged or needed to be staged.
